In the weeks following the publication of the Francis report, NHS Employers hosted six workshops across England. Each session gave HR Directors the opportunity to work through the employment issues in the recommendations, helping them to shape solutions and discuss implementation issues.
We developed a discussion paper, which was used to stimulate the conversation at the workshops. It did not attempt to summarise the Francis report, but rather it provided context to the need for change, and some of the recommendations. It posed some preliminary questions to shape HR Directors' discussions.
All the workshops were fully subscribed, with over 200 HR directors attending. Stimulating and encouraging discussions took place at each one about the changes needed in the NHS in order to improve patient safety.
The feedback from the sessions enables us to best represent employer views to the Department of Health, NHS Commissioning Board, Health Education England and regulators.
