November is transgender awareness month, which provides an opportunity to focus on and support a wide range of transgender issues. 

Transgender awareness week runs 14-20 November, with 20 November being the international transgender day of remembrance (TOR), which remembers those who died as a result of transgender ignorance or prejudice.

The following links provide a range of information relating to increasing the support and understanding of transgender individuals in the NHS.

Guidance on transgender issues
The government and equalities office published three key pieces of guidance  to support employment, service delivery practices, use of gender markers and advice on the protection of transgender individuals privacy. The guidance is currently being revised and we will update this page once it is published.

Providing hospital services to trans patients
Yorkshire and Humber regional equality and diversity leads have produced a clear protocol to support the provision of high quality care to trans people using NHS services in the region.

Treatment and support of trans and non-binary people across the health and care sector
recent NHS England report highlights widespread problems concerning the treatment of transgender and non-binary people across the health and care sector, including reports of health inequalities, discrimination and reduced access to health services.

Improving transgender understanding 
Stepping Hill Hospital recently hosted the largest UK transgender equality event for NHS staff.
