NHS Employers invites you to celebrate the success of the fifth Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Week #EQW2016, which took place from 16 - 20 May 2016.

Coordinated by NHS Employers, #EQW2016 is a national platform for organisations to highlight their work to create a fairer, more inclusive NHS for patients and staff.

Making change happen

The theme for this year is Making change happen. The focus for the week, and beyond, is on how health and social care organisations have used the levers of the Equality Delivery System (EDS2) and the Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES) to support change within their workplaces. Organisations are encouraged to celebrate how they have used their staff networks and social networks, including the Personal, Fair and Diverse model, to empower and engage with staff.

NHS Employers activities

Our activities calendar shows the resources launched throughout the week. These included blogs from equality, diversity and human rights experts, a podcast from Liverpool and other new products. We also hosted the Inclusive Leadership awards on Wednesday 18 May.

Looking ahead

As part of the wide-ranging programme of activity at this year’s annual conference, there are two sessions that we’d like to highlight to participants and supporters of Equality Week 2016:

Focusing on workforce race equality to deliver better care outcomes and performance
This session explores progress on the implementation of the NHS Workforce Race Equality Standard, drawing on the recommendations of the baseline data returns from NHS trusts and supported by practical examples of effective change.

I love the sound of breaking glass: How to create more inclusive boards and leaders
This session is led by advocates and champions of this approach and uses some of the latest research in the field to explore how strategies, practices and policies can create more inclusive boards and leaders within organisations - and ultimately a more inclusive culture.
