In September 2014, NHS Employers, the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) and NHS England announced that the topic of this year’s NHS England agreed audit would be community pharmacy provision of emergency supplies of medicines at the request of patients.
Community pharmacies have been asked to undertake this audit during one of two two-week periods:
– Monday 23 March to Sunday 5 April 2015 (inclusive) or
– Monday 6 April to Sunday 19 April 2015 (inclusive)
These dates have been selected to allow for a comparison between a “business as usual” period and a period that includes the Easter bank holiday weekend when requests may be increased.
Guidance on undertaking the audit and forms for collecting the data and submitting it for either period 1 or period 2 have been developed by NHS Employers, PSNC and NHS England.
Pharmacies are being asked to submit the information collected during this audit to NHS England, to inform their review of urgent and emergency care and to consider how they can work with GP practices and community pharmacies in order to improve services to patients.
The collated results of the audit will be published later in 2015. For more information, including a joint statement, please see our latest news web page.
