Research shows that if staff are well supported, engaged and feel well they are better placed to deliver quality care to their patients. Both the Boorman Review and the Five Year Forward View highlight the importance of NHS staff health and wellbeing and the direct impact it has on patient care. The Five Year Forward View calls for action to ensure the NHS is an example of a healthy employer. The Forward View made a commitment to ensure the NHS as an employer sets a national example in the support it offers its own staff to stay healthy. On 2 September, Simon Stevens announced further plans to support this commitment, which include a major drive to improve the health and wellbeing of NHS staff.

CNO delegates

Our commitment

NHS Employers hosted the NHS Health and Wellbeing Summit 2013 to continue to keep health and wellbeing top of the agenda for NHS organisations. From this, the national organisations wellbeing forum was created to drive the wellbeing agenda forward in the leading NHS organisations.
