NHS Employers is leading the way in promoting and supporting health and wellbeing across the NHS. From organising national events, to creating and coordinating networks, we have worked tirelessly to bring together organisations to connect, share and learn from one another and to make commitments to supporting their staff.
Health and wellbeing summit, April 2013
In April 2013, NHS Employers organised a summit for NHS chief executives to demonstrate their commitment to the health and wellbeing of the NHS workforce in the first full gathering of NHS leaders since the new health system came into being on 1 April 2013.
Convened by NHS Employers and Dame Carol Black, the health and wellbeing summit brought together a range of NHS leaders from system leading organisations such as NHS England, Public Health England, and Health Education England, to discuss approaches to supporting staff health and wellbeing and to sign a pledge to continue to improve the health and wellbeing of staff who work in healthcare. View the pledge.
Dame Carol Black said "The benefits of strong health and well-being programmes in the NHS go far beyond the individual. Staff whose wellbeing and health is well supported deliver better care and are more resilient and better engaged with their role. At a time when the NHS is striving to make the absolute most of its resources, getting this right is crucial. I am very pleased that the NHS leaders in the new system are getting behind this agenda so quickly.”
Staff experience summit, December 2014
Following the success of the first summit, NHS Employers brought NHS leaders together again on the 10 December 2014 to sign a pledge showing their commitment to better staff experience.
The December meeting enabled leaders to share their stories about the progress being made on the staff health and wellbeing agenda in their own organisations and discuss future plans to improve staff experience, including staff engagement and wellbeing.
National Organisations Wellbeing Forum
From these summits, the National Organisations Wellbeing Forum (NOWF), made up of the health and wellbeing leads from the system leaders organisations, was created in order to continue to share experiences, learning, provide support and to continue to work towards the pledge commitments signed by their chief executives. This work has continued, with quarterly meetings and regular updates and sharing of good practice. For more information about what NOWF are doing, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
