The staff engagement star demonstrates the different parts of the system that organisations and individuals in the NHS can work through to support effective staff engagement.
The star shows the five points that collecitvely contribute to an organisations overall committment to staff engagement.
The five points are interlinked in two ways:
- Getting one point to work really well will mean the other elements are more likely to be developed at the same time.
- Once all the points are in place and operating effectively, this is when higher levels of staff engagement will be achieved and NHS staff survey scores will improve.
The staff engagement star was produced in 2012 as an illustration of how various factors contribute to overall engagement of staff. It is not intended to be exhaustive and does not seek to capture all factors at work in shaping staff engagement. It is based around the staff pledges from the NHS Constitution.
