Nicola Ward is a HR and OD project manager at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust and member of NHS Employers’ Total Reward Engagement Network (TREN). In this short blog she shares how she found our 2017 reward event and why she is attending again this year.
Reward in the NHS 2017 was a great opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the country and share ideas with those who I do not regularly see at the Total Reward Engagement Network (TREN).
From the event I came away with lots of new ideas to help shape and transform our reward offer. Attending prompted me and my team to review our whole reward offer - looking at how we linked with recruitment - and we introduced a range of initiatives which were suggested by other delegates I met at the event.
I most enjoyed the workshop session as it allowed us to talk in small groups about some of the issues that we are all facing, regardless of our location, such as recruitment and retention. I found it incredibly useful to hear what other trusts are doing to combat some of the issues we are facing ourselves.
Having the exhibitor stalls in the reception area allowed me to speak to providers about what we could be delivering for our staff and how we could review our current offer, without having to commit to their services.
The central London location is easy to travel to and the food was fantastic. I also won a prize, which is always nice!
The session that I am most looking forward to at the 2019 event is ‘Using Technology to Communicate Reward’ as this is something we are currently exploring.
I would recommend anyone with a responsibility for reward in their organisation to attend the event as it is a great opportunity to connect with providers and other colleagues who are facing similar challenges.
