Retention from an organisational development perspective

In this case study, University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust shares how it tackled the issue of staff retention from an organisational development perspective.

The publication, the second in a series developed with NHS Improvement, explores how the trust undertook analysis of workforce data to understand the reasons why staff were leaving, and to learn about what contributes to positive staff experience. This led the trust's organisational development team to design and implement a number of interventions focused on four key areas of improvement.

The case study features key learning points, explores how the trust overcame certain challenges and highlights a number of additional resources which may be useful for organisations seeking to address retention of the workforce.
