This case study looks at how Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has sought to improve staff engagement in an innovative way by setting up a three-day engagement event, the Event in the Tent.
Most NHS trusts face a range of challenges when it comes to communication and engagement across a large workforce. Employers tend to have diverse workforces operating across multiple locations, so it can be challenging to find ways to engage with all staff in a direct way. Many organisations have used the tool of the big conversation to engage staff around change and get ideas for service improvement and tackling workplace issues.
Led by communications manager Jacob Prichard, Milton Keynes took the concept one step further and developed the Event in the Tent. This brought together staff from across the trust over a three-day period, hosted keynote expert speakers, and focused on subjects important to the organisation.
