Leading the way with the engagement tube map

17 / 01 / 2019

As part of its work to improve staff engagement scores on the NHS Staff Survey, Lincolnshire Community Health NHS Trust has taken inspiration from the London Underground to develop a staff engagement tube map.

The case study looks at how the trust aimed to improve its Care Quality Commission rating and NHS Staff Survey score by focused on getting three areas right.

  • Advocacy – how staff talk about the organisation.
  • Involvement – how employees decide on the work they do.
  • Motivation – how enthusiastic staff are to come to work.

It was hoped that this would help to improve:

  • patient satisfaction
  • staff sickness and turnover
  • patient mortality.

The publication also focuses on how the trust looked at a number of areas to build better leadership and capability, developing a range of activities to help engage staff day to day.
