Response to Good Work Plan consultation

Read our response to the government consultation Good Work Plan: Proposals to support families.

Our response is based on the collective views, feedback and comments we received from employers and we would like to thank all of those who engaged with the development of this consultation response.

Some of the key points from our response include:

  • Most respondents supported an extension to statutory paternity leave and an increase to the rate for statutory paternity pay.
  • The majority of respondents felt that families should be provided with the flexibility and choice over when paternity leave could be taken.
  • Most respondents agreed that parents of babies who are admitted to neonatal care for a minimum of two weeks should be eligible for additional leave and pay, and this should be a day one right.
  • The majority agreed with the proposal for large employers to publish their family-related and flexible working policies on their website.
