A new way to approach OD consulting

10 / 03 / 2020

In this thought piece, Professor Bob Marshak, scholar in residence, at the American University, of Washington DC proposes a new way of approaching organisation development (OD) consulting called, dialogic process consulting. This helps clients to more effectively perceive, understand and take action by focussing on the dialogic meaning process.

The article contains practical advice and suggestions for OD practitioners on areas including:

  • The core premises of dialogic process consulting
  • How deep listening and transforming talk can enable different conversations to engage people in change processes
  • Three conditions needed for change.

While reading the article, consider the following questions:

  • In your organisation and system - What patterns and behaviours do you notice in managing and leading change?
  • How could you help foster, support and accelerate new ways of talking and thinking that lead to the emergence of generative possibilities?
  • How might you use dialogic process consulting in your organisation or system?

Professor Bob Marshak has more than 35 years of experience consulting with public and private corporations globally and is the author of many change leadership publications.
