Employers are currently able to conduct interviews using any technology that might be available to them. We would recommend this as an appropriate way forward to support working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The main aim of face-to-face interviews is to assess a person’s suitability by social interaction, workplace and values-based assessments, but this can equally be adapted to work through a video conferencing facility. This may include Skype, Slack, Microsoft Teams, WebEx or FaceTime. Online clinical or other work-based assessments are also readily available either for access through a computer or mobile phone app.
The employing organisation remains responsible for seeking the necessary assurances that the person they interview online is actually the person presenting themselves for work, or is carrying out work on their behalf, if they will be working remotely.
