Verification of original documents

COVID-19 indemnity and litigation

For the purpose of verifying identity, right to work and obtaining DBS checks, temporary changes have been made to pre-existing guidance to allow employers to accept scanned and emailed copies of original documentary evidence.

Please note, this change should only be applied where making urgent appointments and it is not reasonably possible to follow the normal checking guidelines. The applicant must present the original versions of these documents as soon as is practical. For example, when they come in for induction.

All scanned and emailed documents must be retained on file.

If the individual is both recruited and deployed remotely i.e. may be working from home, we would recommend that the employer makes a record that verification of documents has been carried out remotely and not through examining original documentation.
