#jabathon has now officially begun! The week long social media campaign, run by the flu fighter team, aims to encourage health and social care staff to share their reasons for getting their flu jab and start a conversation on social media about how important it is.
Our #jabathon webpage has a lot of suggestions how you can get involved, by sharing your reasons for getting your flu jab and nominating colleagues to do the same, placing a twibbon on your twitter profile or hosting a #jabathon themed event.
This week there will be a selection of different events taking place each day.
Monday 8 October
Chief Executive of NHS Employers, Danny Mortimer has shared his thoughts in this blog on why the flu vaccination is essential for all healthcare staff and why he feels it’s important for himself and to protect his loved ones.
Tuesday 9 October
We’ll be launching a new flu fighter film following the story of clinical nurse specialist Samantha Robinson from Wales Fertility Institute at Neath Port Talbot Hospital and her identical twin Helen. Helen and Sam have asthma and Helen fell severely ill with flu after she didn’t get her flu jab, unlike her sister Samantha. The film will highlight the importance of getting the flu jab, particularly for health and social care professionals.
Wednesday 10 October
Assistant Director at NHS Employers, Ruth Warden will share a beautiful and poignant blog providing insight into what it’s like to be an at-risk patient who is susceptible to flu and how important it is for the hospital staff around her to have had their flu vaccinations.
Thursday 11 October
Craig Bradley, associate chief nurse & deputy director of infection prevention & control at Gloucestershire Hospitals, will takeover the @NHSflufighter twitter account for the day! Craig has been involved infection prevention for 10 years, has lectured on the subject and has studied healthcare leadership and infection prevention. Keep an eye on our twitter feed to see what Craig and the teams over at Gloucestershire will be getting up to during #jabathon.
Friday 12 October
We will be creating a #Jabathon round up, featuring all the great things that have been going on across the country this week and highlighting some fantastic flu campaigns.
Don't forget to get involved and follow all the activity through the week on #jabathon.
