Supporting skilled refugees into clinical practice

Doctor reading

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust's resettlement programme for refugees has assisted qualified overseas doctors and healthcare professionals to return to practice.

By working with local charity Investing in People and Culture, the trust was able to identify refugees and asylum seekers with clinical skills who wished to return to practice.

The trust supported these candidates to remove barriers to professional registration by providing them with language, cultural, pastoral, professional, clinical and immigration support. As a result, the trust has successfully recruited doctors into its organisation and plans to continue this programme for a third consecutive cohort.
