The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is consulting on various changes to the NHS Pension Scheme regulations. The proposed changes include:
- introducing a new contribution rate of 20.6 per cent for employers from 1 April 2019. The provisional results of the 2016 scheme valuation indicate the employer contribution rate will rise from 14.3 per cent to 20.6 per cent and the government has committed to providing additional for employers to cover the cost increase
- renewing current member contribution rates so that the same rates continue to apply beyond 1 April 2019. DHSC asked the Scheme Advisory Board (SAB) for advice on the design of member contributions from 1 April 2019 and has accepted their recommendation. The consultation document sets out further details on SAB’s recommendation
- providing civil partners and same sex spouses with the same survivor pension rights as widows
- exempting nationally agreed pay increases for agenda for change staff from the final pay controls.
You can read full details of all the proposed changes on the gov.uk website. The deadline for submitting your consultation response to DHSC is Monday 28 January 2019.
