Update to right to work checks

Checklist

Employers can now check a candidate’s right to work online.

The change, detailed in the updated An employer’s guide on right to work checks, explains how the new online service works and includes guidance on the retention of candidate information.

Also included in the employer’s guide is an amendment to the acceptable document list to add ‘short’ birth certificates as proof of right to work, where they are appropriately documented with a national insurance number.

Both changes will be reflected in the employment check standards in due course. You can read the updated guidance on the Home Office website.
