Emma Busby, physiotherapy assistant at the Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust has won the 2019 NHS Employers Award for her work in leading a programme that is improving the lives of patients with lower limb osteoarthritis.
Part of the 2019 Advancing Healthcare Awards, which recognise the achievements made by allied health professionals, healthcare scientists and those who work alongside them, the NHS Employers award recognises the outstanding achievement by an apprentice, support worker or technician.
Emma was nominated for the award for initiating and leading on the OASIS (osteoarthritis self-management and independent living support) group programme. The six-week programme focuses on education and exercise to improve the strength, fitness and self-management for patients and is achieving some positive outcomes including reducing pain levels and increasing mobility.
Emma, who described winning the award as ‘one of the proudest moments to date in my career’ has presented the model to other services in the trust who have adopted this to offer classes to their patients.
