NHS Workforce Disability Equality Standard

As part of the national work on the workforce disability equality programme, NHS Employers diversity and inclusion team and NHS England have organised four share and learn webinars to help NHS organisations implement the NHS Workforce Disability Equality Standard (WDES).

Friday 17 May 2019, 2pm - 3pm - Recruiting and retaining staff with disabilities – manager responsibilities

Aimed at those involved in recruiting and retaining staff with disabilities, this webinar will:    

  • help managers gain a better understanding of the WDES metrics that are relevant to recruitment and retention
  • share good practice on building line management capability in supporting, understanding and valuing disabled staff
  • identify inclusive practice in the recruitment and retention of disabled staff.     

Wednesday 22 May 2019, 11.30am -12.30pm - Action planning for the NHS Workforce Disability Equality Standard

Aimed at equality and diversity leads, HR professionals and Trade Union representatives, this webinar will share insights on WDES action planning and highlight good practice examples from trusts who have developed robust action plans, and will focus on the changes needed to be made in the short, medium and long-term.

Tuesday 4 June 2019, 2pm - 3pm - Improving disability declaration rates

Aimed at equality and diversity leads, HR professional and Trade Union representatives, this webinar will showcase good practice from a variety of organisations on how best to develop an organisation-wide action plan on increasing the disclosure of staff disability.

Wednesday 26 June, 10.30am - 11.30pm – The role of senior leaders in supporting workforce disability

Aimed at senior leaders and board members, this webinar will highlight the role senior leaders and board members can play in supporting workforce disability.

The WDES came into force on 1 April 2019 and is a set of specific measures (metrics) that will enable NHS organisations to compare the experiences of disabled and non-disabled staff.
