We have updated our Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) scenarios document to include further clarity on basic disclosure checks and when employers could consider using these.
A basic disclosure check is the lowest level of check, and assesses an applicant's criminal history, convictions and cautions against the Police National Computer (NPC). A basic check can provide assurances over a candidate's suitability for a role, if they are not eligible for a standard or enhanced check but still hold a high level of responsibility, accountability or trust. More information can be found on the different types of DBS checks in our criminal records check standard
The scenarios document, which can be used alongside our DBS eligibility tool, provides several example scenarios by job role to help employers make informed decisions about when to request a DBS check. Examples have been chosen based on frequently asked questions from employers.
