International Day of People with Disabilities 2019

To support International Day of People with Disabilities which takes place on Tuesday 3 December 2019, we are promoting a number of blogs, resources and tools to encourage organisations and their managers to support staff with disabilities. These include:

  • Information on how organisations can make reasonable adjustments to support staff with disabilities.
  • A blog by Chris Rowlands equality and diversity lead at Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust which focusses on the importance of staff networks and listening to the voices of disabled staff.
  • A toolkit on how to recruit and support disabled staff in the NHS.
  • A blog by Paul Deemer head of diversity and inclusion at NHS Employers which highlights the need to challenge cultural and attitudinal barriers that stop so many people with disabilities in the workplace fulfilling their true potential.
  • A downloadable health passport for staff with disabilties to use within their workplace.

Earlier this year the NHS took positive steps to educate the system around disability in the workplace through the implementation of the NHS Workforce Disability Equality Standard (WDES), the first WDES annual report will be published in early 2020.

Find out more International Day of People with Disabilities, disability in the NHS and how you can make a pledge to break down the barriers and create a culture that welcomes the employment of people with learning disabilities.
