Take part in the Nightingale Challenge and develop your younger nurses and midwives

Take part in a global initiative to inspire the next generation of nurses and midwives to be leaders in health with Nursing Now's Nightingale Challenge.

Designed to coincide with celebrations for the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife 2020, the challenge encourages all large healthcare employers to support at least 20 nurses and midwives aged under 35 to develop their leadership skills through the year. Employers in over 60 countries have signed up to take part.

Employers can decide how they want to take up the challenge, with the expectation being that all programmes will include some personal development and the opportunity to learn about leadership techniques, rather than being clinical only. You could consider offering shadowing opportunities, mentoring, formal courses, secondments or ring fenced time to learn from other professionals or sectors.

You may also want to collaborate with local organisations, sharing learning and offering opportunities to nurses and midwives across the region.
