The Home Office has announced that people with visas who cannot return home due to COVID-19 will be able to extend their visa.
Anyone who had their leave expire after 24 January will be able to extend their visa until 31 May 2020, but must contact the Coronavirus Immigration Team (CIT) to let them know their visa has expired or will be expiring.
For those looking to switch to a long-term visa, they will be able to apply from within the UK until 31 May. This means that applicants will be able to switch routes, such as from Tier 4 (student) to Tier 2 (general worker), without having to return to their home country. They will still need to meet the same visa requirements.
The Home Office will regularly be reviewing the situation in case further extensions are required.
More detail on the changes is available on the GOV.UK website.
