Overseas applicants eligible for NMC temporary register

nurses reviewing notes

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is inviting overseas applicants who have completed all parts of their registration process except their objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) to join the COVID-19 temporary register.

The change applies to both nurses and midwives, but they must meet all of the following criteria:

  • be living in the UK
  • have passed the Computer Based Test (CBT)
  • have had their qualifications, language, health and character checked by the NMC
  • have been booked in for an OSCE.

Eligible staff will receive a form from the NMC to join the register and will not be required to pay a fee. Joining the temporary register is optional for eligible applicants,  and they should always work under the direction of an NMC registered nurse, midwife or other registered healthcare professional who is not on a temporary register.

More detail is available on the NMC website.
