Employers and doctors have a great opportunity to design an attractive reward system for NHS consultants in England.
We need the views of CEOs and senior NHS managers to influence the biggest change to the consultant contract since 2003.
A range of stakeholders have told us that the current local clinical excellence awards (LCEA) system is not working as it should. NHS Employers is tasked to work with consultant unions to negotiate a new system which is fair, equitable, and sustainable, and which makes the most of the £160 million available nationally every year to reward and incentivise senior doctors. We want to ensure that employers are influencing this work, and that the new system helps you to drive improvements in your local trust.
Please have conversations with your boards and your consultant bodies, and complete our survey by Monday 24 August to inform these important negotiations.
