NHS Employers is working with the Department of Health and Social Care and refugee non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to develop a supportive programme of work to help employers recruit skilled refugees and displaced people into NHS.
The NHS People Plan is clear that international recruitment will be vital to meeting staffing requirements. Employing skilled refugees and displaced people provides opportunities for individuals who may have faced significant hardship and also helps organisations to fill vacancies.
There are a large number of skilled and experienced medical, nurse and healthcare professional refugees and displaced people both within the UK and overseas who are incredibly keen to work in the NHS. With NGO support we aim to launch a pilot programme to match suitable candidates to vacant posts.
