Today (3 December) is International Day of People with Disabilities and #PurpleLightUp. As part of our activities we have published a new understanding disability infographic which provides an explanation of disability, some of the associated health conditions and key statistics.
The infographic also includes actions for organisations and managers which can help address some of the barriers that disabled staff may experience in the workplace. We encourage organisations to review the infographic and share with colleagues to raise awareness.
All NHS organisations are required to demonstrate how they are addressing disability issues by publishing their annual Workforce Disability Equality Standard report and action plan.
#PurpleLightUp is a global movement that celebrates and draws attention to the economic contribution of the 386 million disabled employees around the world. Since 2017, #PurpleLightUp has been driving momentum for disability inclusion across hundreds of organisations. This includes lighting up iconic buildings purple, holding events, developing workplace policies for disabled employees and sparking conversations about disability inclusion worldwide.
