The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has published a new managing concerns resource that aims to help employers respond to concerns raised against their nurses and midwives, in a way that avoids fear or blame. Read the guide on the NMC's website.
It is hoped the resource will help ensure people can speak up, knowing they will be supported and treated fairly. The guide also aims to address some of the findings in the NMC's Ambitious For Change Report which found nurses and midwives from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds being more likely to be referred to fitness to practise than peers from white backgrounds.
Alongside this resource, the NMC has published case study scenarios and a guide on completing online referrals. They are also expected to update online referral forms for employers and the public in the coming weeks.
