Extension to temporary right to work check guidance

Employers can continue to check the right to work of candidates remotely as the Home Office extends temporary right to work check guidance.

25 August 2021

The Home Office has extended its temporary right to work check guidance until 5 April 2022 (inclusive), allowing employers to continue to check rights to work remotely.

The Home Office also intends to expand the Home Office online checking service so it can be used by more people, including UK and Irish citizens.

The temporary guidance was originally published on 30 March 2020, in response to mass homeworking due to the pandemic, and lays out the process employers must follow when checking an individual's right to work remotely.
