The Gender Pay Gap Implementation Panel has published a new resource to showcase the work it has supported since it was launched in 2021. The panel’s role is to oversee, direct and support the implementation of the recommendations that emerged from the Gender Pay Gap in Medicine Review that was published in 2020.

During its first year, the panel made progress with reforms to the National Clinical Impact Awards (formerly National Clinical Excellence Awards), including changes aimed at enhancing the diversity of applicants. Recent data presented at the panel meeting suggests that the gender pay gap in medicine has decreased from 17 per cent in September 2018 to 12.7 per cent in March 2021. Although the cause of this decline is difficult to determine, there is broad agreement that the publication of the review, and momentum created by the panel have been positive influences.
