New employers’ guide to podiatry

Our new guide supports employers to tackle podiatry workforce supply and retention issues.

26 May 2023

Podiatrists play an essential role in supporting services in the NHS, with a range of roles in primary, secondary, and community care.

However, employers in the NHS are facing challenges with the recruitment and retention of podiatry staff. Research suggests an ongoing decline in the number of entrants into the profession and increasing attrition rates.

This new guide aims to enable NHS organisations to:

  • use flexible educational approaches to increasing routes into podiatry

  • focus on professional development to aid the retention of podiatrists

  • make better use of the skills and capabilities of existing staff

  • develop and expand their podiatry services to provide safe and effective care to their patients and communities

  • address the issues currently affecting podiatry in the NHS.

The guide features the experiences of individuals and organisations that have embarked on their journeys to future-proof podiatry in the NHS.

The guide is available now on our website.
