Specialist grade appointment guidance
Guidance to support employers transitioning doctors into the specialist grade and with the collation of evidence against the capabilities framework.
NHS Employers and the British Medical Association have developed new guidance to support the implementation of the new specialist 2021 contract.
The specialist grade appointment guidance has been developed based on the feedback and questions from employers regarding the transition of associate specialists to the specialist grade and the collation of evidence against the capabilities framework criteria.
The guidance provides:
- additional clarity for employers on the transition process for associate specialists moving to the specialist grade
- an easy-to-use template, along with accompanying guidance, on how doctors can evidence that they meet the criteria in the capabilities framework.
