Paramedic (newly-qualified) profile

Further to the publication of the new Bbo enhance the operation of the service, there should be a period of up to 24 months for newly-qualified paramedics (NQPs) where they work with additional support and guidance from senior colleagues before assuming a band 6 position. As a result a new band 5 paramedic (newly-qualified) profile has been agreed by the NHS Staff Council.

Following a national review of ambulance paramedic roles in pay band 5, a new profile for paramedic at pay band 6 has been agreed by the NHS Staff Council.  In order to determine if paramedic jobs match this new profile ambulance employers, in partnership with trades unions, have agreed a process for testing if jobs match to the new profile, see the Staff Council guidance.

Please note: This does not mean that all paramedic jobs in pay band 5 will match to the new profile.  This will be decided by joint matching panels in line with the nationally agreed procedures. Further information on how to do this can be found in the guidance for job matching and frequently asked questions.

These job profiles have been drafted by the Job Evaluation Group (JEG) and agreed by the NHS Staff Council to which JEG reports and has representatives of both the NHS trade unions and NHS organisations.
