Identify an NHS Armed Forces champion

It would be useful for your organisation to have an internal Armed Forces champion to lead on your Armed Forces agenda. Where possible, a champion should co-ordinate the work that your organisation does to support the Armed Forces, be the point of contact for members of the community within your workforce and keep up to date with good practice from other NHS organisations.

Your champion can be anyone within your organisation who can take the lead on this agenda, often, this is a member of the HR team or someone with a personal military connection.

A champion’s activities would usually include the below.

Becoming a forces-friendly employer

Supporting your Armed Forces colleagues

  • Highlighting your position to the Armed Forces community within your organisation using our editable poster.
  • Being the single point of contact for your organisation by displaying your details on the NHS Employers Armed Forces footprint map. This map also provides useful contact details in your local area.
  • Setting up an internal Armed Forces network
  • Linking with your communications team to effectively promote your organisation as a forces-friendly employer.
