What you need to know

Positive action aims to meet the diverse needs of individuals who have a protected characteristic, by ensuring they have equal opportunities to participate in social and economic life.

Positive action was introduced in April 2011, following the Equality Act 2010. It enables employers to take certain voluntary actions to address disadvantage that some individuals may face. Despite positive action being permitted within a legal framework, it is still not widely used across the UK.

This web section will help you achieve a better understanding of what positive action is and explain how you can take positive action in your organisation.
