National training for local job evaluation

The NHS Staff Council job evaluation group (JEG) provides expert training, along with guidance and advice, to NHS trusts to support local job evaluation implementation.

Job evaluation (JE) is key to running the 2018 NHS Terms and Conditions of Service (Agenda for Change) pay system and promotes equal pay for more than one million NHS staff. The NHS job evaluation scheme measures the skills, responsibilities and effort that are required for a job, and allocates it to an Agenda for Change pay band.  It does this by matching them to national job profiles or evaluating jobs locally, to set the basic pay for staff.

The JEG offers a range of practical one and two-day training courses for organisations that are run, in partnership, by experienced and accredited trainers.

In line with the national Terms and Conditions of Service agreement, every job matching panel member and job analyst is required to attend a training course and must be up to date on current practices, before they take part in local panels.

The JEG courses are suitable for organisations who require more job matchers, job analysts and job evaluators or refresher training for existing practitioners. The courses includes:

  • the principles of equal pay
  • how to avoid bias
  • the building blocks of the job evaluation scheme
  • the importance of consistency checking in job evaluation
  • the importance of partnership working.

The courses are run at a venue of your choice, except for the consistency checking courses, which are held regionally. Prices vary depending on the number of attendees, with a minimum of ten and a maximum of 24 delegates per course.

Details and how to apply for each course can be found in the table below:
