Curriculum changes

The Shape of Training review in 2017 made a recommendation to develop medical training pathways and curricula to improve the educational experience of doctors in training.

There are 65 specialties and 32 sub-specialties which need to be developed by royal colleges and faculties to meet the principles of the review by the end of 2020. A full list can be found here

The General Medical Council (GMC) recently approved a number of curricula which meet these principles. Further information on the key changes and considerations for employers in terms of implications for educational supervisors, service continuity and generic work schedules for trainees moving onto the new curriculum can be found below.

Medical royal colleges and faculties are engaging with employers around proposals for further curricula changes. We will provide further updates as and when these changes are approved by the GMC.
