Accessibility
Our commitment to accessibility
NHS Employers is committed to ensuring our website is accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of technology or ability. We aim to provide a website that is clear, usable and inclusive for all users, including those with disabilities.
Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) set out requirements to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. These guidelines define three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA and Level AAA.
The nhsemployers.org website is currently partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. This means that some parts of the content do not fully meet the accessibility standard.
We are actively working to bring the website into line with WCAG 2.2 Level AA, which reflects the latest accessibility guidance and best practice.
Measures to support accessibility
NHS Employers takes the following measures to support accessibility:
- Integrating accessibility into our content creation and publishing processes
- Using responsive design so the website adapts to different screen sizes and devices
- Providing alternative text for images wherever possible
- Reviewing content regularly to identify and address accessibility issues
Accessibility tools
Our website includes the ReachDeck Toolbar, which provides a range of accessibility features, including:
- Text‑to‑speech
- Translation into multiple languages
- Text magnification
- Screen masking and page simplification
The toolbar can be launched using the Accessibility help button in the website header.
Non‑accessible content
Despite our efforts, some content on the website is not yet fully accessible. For example:
- Some PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen reader software
- Embedded images or charts within PDFs may lack suitable text alternatives
Where possible, we can provide accessible alternatives on request.
What we are doing to improve accessibility
We are continuing to improve accessibility across nhsemployers.org. This work includes:
- Auditing templates and content against WCAG 2.2 Level AA
- Improving the accessibility of documents and downloadable content
- Addressing feedback received from users who experience accessibility barriers
