Annie Laverty

Annie was first appointed as Director of Patient Experience at Northumbria Healthcare in December 2009, the first post of its kind in the NHS. Within this unique role, she strengthened board accountability and visibility and developed the most comprehensive patient experience programme in the NHS.

Annie is a Health Foundation Generation Q fellow and is committed to improving quality from within the NHS. She has recognised expertise in engaging patients and carers in service redesign and improvement. She began her career as a speech and language therapist, working in, and ultimately leading, Northumbria Healthcare’s stroke team over a twenty-year period.

Whilst working for the North East and North Cumbria ICB Annie led the design and development of BOOST; a learning community for system improvement and innovation with over 7000 members. 

She joined Newcastle Hospitals Executive Team in February 2024 as their Chief Experience Officer.
