Gaynor Walker
Gaynor Walker currently works for NHS England and has authored the Equality Delivery System 2022. She has specialist skills spanning across patient equalities, health inequalities, business continuity and has experiences in health emergency planning, playing multiple roles in regional and national emergencies/disruptive incidents. Starting her career within a strategic health authority, Gaynor has worked across the health sector in many disciplines at both regional and national level.
A proud Yorkshire woman, Gaynor currently leads on NHS England’s compliance with the general equality duty as required by the public sector equality duty (Equality Act 2010). She also created and leads the Equality and Health Inequalities Network, on the FutureNHS platform, connecting staff from across the public sector to address the equality agenda. Gaynor has been in equality and health inequalities since January 2018 and previously was one of two business continuity managers within NHS England, managing business continuity across various regions and within the commissioning support units across the country.
Gaynor is a passionate leader and champion for change across the NHS on various areas around promoting equality, diversity and inclusion agenda and set up the Black and Minority Ethnic Staff Network within NHS England as co-chair of the network, pioneering various organisational strategies aimed at ensuring senior leadership understood the concerns and experiences faced by ethnic minority staff in England, as well and proactively assisting other equality groups to set up their respective staff networks. In addition, she has been the secretariat for the NHS Equality and Diversity Council.
Gaynor has an extensive portfolio of work, and has spoken at local, regional and international conferences.
