The NHS Staff Council’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing group hosted a webinar on 25 September to gain essential insights into managing asbestos safely across NHS estates, including a presentation from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The webinar, hosted by the HSWG provided essential guidance on the effective management of asbestos in buildings and included a speaker from the HSE.

The session:

  • provided an overview of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, with a focus on Regulation 4 – ‘Duty to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises’ and what it means in practice
  • explored trends from HSE ‘duty to manage’ inspection activity across Great Britain, offering insight into the current compliance landscape
  • gave practical guidance for asbestos management in an acute healthcare environment
  • provided an overview of the role of the trade union health and safety rep in the context of building safety
  • gave practical steps to safeguard health and safety in the workplace.

This webinar was open to heads of estates, estates managers/supervisors and staff, capital project managers, facilities managers, health and safety professionals and trade union health and safety reps in NHS organisations.
