Peter Reading

Peter is Chief Executive of Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS). He has spent over 25 years as chief executive of seven NHS trusts, including University Hospitals of Leicester, UCL Hospitals, Lewisham & Guy’s Mental Health, and three multi-site provincial district general hospitals, before joining YAS in 2023. He has also been a management consultant (both freelance and with PwC) specialising in setting up academic health science centres, supporting special measures trusts, and conducting Well Led Reviews.

Peter joined the NHS in 1984 as a national management trainee at Guy’s Hospital in 1984, following a degree in economics and history at Cambridge and a PhD in Russian economic history at Birmingham and Moscow State Universities. A polio survivor since he was a baby, Peter is Co-Chair of the Disabled NHS Directors Network
