Artificial intelligence for the NHS workforce

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to simplify process and support workforce supply, this hub will support you to make the most of it.

This hub brings together our content on artificial intelligence (AI) and robotic process automation (RPA), providing case studies, advice and guidance to help you understand the opportunities, risks and considerations involved in adopting these technologies.

NHS organisations are already adopting AI and RPA in meaningful ways, including improving recruitment journeys and enhancing temporary staffing processes.

AI and RPA - understanding the difference

AI is data driven - it is intended to simulate human intelligence, learning and decision making, using data, algorithms and feedback loops. AI bots use machine learning to recognise patterns in data, in particular unstructured data, and learn over time.

RPA is process driven - it is solely for replicating human-directed tasks. RPA bots automate repetitive, rule-based tasks (like data entry or recruitment tasks) and can follow only processes defined by the end user.
