New app to help refugees explore careers in the NHS

Find out more about a new digital app designed to help refugees explore and access NHS employment opportunities.

23 February 2026

NHS Employers, in partnership with Ryalto, has launched a new digital app designed to help refugees explore and access employment opportunities across the NHS.

The tool aims to make it simpler for refugees to understand available roles, connect with live vacancies, and access wider support from trusted organisations.

About the app

The Refugee Employment Support App provides users with clear information on NHS job opportunities across three key pathways:

  • entry-level roles
  • nursing and allied health professional roles
  • doctor and dentist roles.

The app is already demonstrating strong engagement, with over 650 registered users exploring NHS careers since launch.

In addition to job listings, the app signposts users to organisations offering specialist support to refugees navigating professional registration, language support, employment preparation, and career re-entry.

Developed with sector partners

To ensure the platform meets the needs of refugees with a diverse range of skills and backgrounds, we have worked closely with a number of expert partners, including:

  • British Red Cross
  • Breaking Barriers
  • Ukrainian Medical Charity
  • REACHE (Refugee and Asylum Seeker Centre for Healthcare Professionals Education)
  • Building Bridges
  • Lincolnshire Refugee Doctor Project
  • REPOD (Resettlement Programme for Overseas Doctors)
  • ReSTORE (Refugee Support, Training, Orientation, Recruitment and Education).

These organisations contribute information on wrap-around support, training, and pathways into regulated professions.

How to get involved

We encourage NHS organisations across England to:

  • Share the app locally with resourcing teams, community partners, and organisations supporting refugees in your area.
  • Promote NHS opportunities through existing refugee employment programmes and local authority networks.
  • Engage with your regional contacts to identify opportunities for collaborative recruitment or tailored support.

Expanding access to this tool will help increase visibility of NHS careers, support refugee integration, and strengthen local recruitment pipelines.
