New HCPC resources to support advanced levels of practice

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) has released a new suite of resources to support registrants, managers and employers.

2 April 2026

Commissioned by NHS England and developed in partnership with the General Osteopathic Council, the resources respond to the growing number of experienced practitioners working in advanced and extended roles across health and care.

What the new resources include and who they are for

The resources are designed to provide practical support and are available in a range of formats to meet different professional and organisational needs. They include:

  • downloadable guidance and reflective tools
  • tailored and updated web content
  • access to recorded webinars and slide packs to support CPD
  • signposting to further guidance and examples from professional bodies and partner organisations.

The content is primarily aimed at experienced registrants and their managers, but may also be useful for workforce leads, service managers, education providers and strategic leaders involved in designing and supporting advanced practice roles. The examples reflect practice across different sectors, professions and across the UK.

Why this matters

Advanced practice roles continue to be a critical part of workforce transformation, service redesign and productivity improvement across the NHS. As roles diversify and expand across professions and settings, employers have consistently highlighted the need for clearer national guidance on regulatory expectations.

These new HCPC resources can support employers to:

  • have informed conversations with practitioners about role development and scope of practice
  • strengthen delegation and supervision arrangements within multidisciplinary teams
  • support staff working at, or progressing towards, advanced levels of practice to meet regulatory standards with confidence
  • align local workforce policies with national regulatory expectations.

Access the resources

Employers and managers can explore the full range of resources, including downloadable guidance and recorded webinars, on the HCPC website.
