Impact of the Medical Training Prioritisation Act
The medical training prioritisation act came into effect in March in response to concerns raised by UK graduates around competition ratios for training posts.
The Act prioritises UK trained medical graduates and those who have ‘significant’ NHS experience. For 2025, immigration status has been used as a proxy measure while discussions on what constitutes ‘significant’ experience are ongoing.
NHS England has published NHS specialty recruitment data from the Oriel recruitment system, key points are:
- prioritised doctors have filled 98 per cent of roles
- for the first time ever, 100 per cent of GP training places were accepted by UK graduates or applicants already working in the NHS.
