Medical Training Initiative scheme closure
NHS England has made the decision to end the current MTI scheme.
The Medical Training Initiative (MTI) is closed to new applicants from noon on 31 March 2026.
Doctors currently on placements in the UK will not be affected and will still be able to complete their two-year attachment.
Key information:
- Any application received after 12 noon 31 March 2026 will not be processed.
- Medical colleges should not take on any new applicants. Only applications declared as in progress BEFORE 31 March will be processed by the Academy.
- Medical colleges are given a three-month grace period to submit applications already declared to the Academy as in progress.
