Paramedic consolidation of learning

A review of paramedic role profiles in 2016/17, which ensured they remained fit for purpose, saw the development of a new band 6 paramedic profile.

As part of the agreement, newly qualified paramedics work with additional support and guidance from senior colleagues, for a period of up to 24 months, before moving into a band 6 role. This ensures safe practice and provides consolidation of learning to enhance the operation of service. To support this, JEG developed a band 5 newly-qualified paramedic profile which became available from 1 September 2016.

Once the consolidated learning period is successfully completed, paramedics will move to a band 6 role automatically unless there are matters that are being dealt with under formal capability procedures. The expectation is that the new job description should match the agreed paramedic profile.
